Hello fellow readers,

I’m writing to share an article that our local news shared about stronger association between liver cancer and herbal remedies.

123Superherbs is a site that advocate health eating especially with the use of Chinese herbs, so I like to share it here too and be very transparent.

We do not share the same mentality as other sites that talks about TCM curing certain illness.

What we believe in is that “Prevention before Cure” with the use of Chinese herbs / natural in our diet. Herbs are use for complimenting our health. Which is why in the recipes you will see benefits and side effects (if any) listed along side. Or note at the end of the article to shared who are not suitable for the soup. Just like how having carrots are good for our eyes. Or taking Goji berries for more antioxidants 🙂

Below is a quote from the article and the link.

The findings suggest stronger measures are needed to prevent people from consuming chemicals called aristolochic acids (AA), which are derived from the woody vines of the Aristolochia plant family, said the report in the journal Science Translational Medicine. via Across Asia, liver cancer is linked to herbal remedies: Study, East Asia News & Top Stories – The Straits Times

The article only refers to a particular chemical component found in a herb (no exact mention), so it may be too broad to include all herbs are bad.

That being said, Chinese herbs are still considered much more natural and less detrimental to our human body than synthetic drugs especially when applied appropriately.

Lastly, Lijiuan and I strongly believe in balanced diet and maintaining an active lifestyle. So we can all enjoy the wonderful things in life and we love for you to join us in this journey.
